York Swim's Head Coach, is a Member of ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Associations) and CSCTA (Canadian Swimming Coaches and Teaching Association). Fisiha is a graduate from the University of DHFKA Leipzig, Germany where he specialized in competitive swimming and also achieved successful swimming results for the University. He also studied Psychology at York University. Fisiha swam competitively for 12 years at National and University levels. Fisiha has been coaching for over 25 years and over his tenure he has placed swimmers in the Junior Nationals and Olympic Trials. Under Fisiha's tutelage swimmers have achieved number 1 rankings in Canada and numerous others, in their respective ages, have ranked in the top 10 in Canada. Fisiha's swimmers have represented Ontario and Eastern Canada at the Canadian Games. Fisiha coached the current Canadian record holder for the 200 Breaststroke (SWAD). Internationally, Fisiha has coached Teams that participated in the All African Games in Kenya and in the World Youth Championship in Bulgaria. Fisiha coached distant swimmers for the English Channel and Around Manhattan, NY. Fisiha has completed his Level 2 and Level 3 Theory Coaching Certification. Fisiha has also taught coaches and lectured at the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Coach - Joe Nishibayashi
Joe is a former swimmer who started his swimming career right here at York Swim Club. Joe also started his first coaching position at York Swim Club back in 2008. After coaching at York for 5 years, Joe moved on to become the Head Age Group coach at Swim Apex Aquatic Club. In 2019, Joe came back to York to coach the Age Group 1 & 2 groups. Joe graduated from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (now called Ontario Tech University) with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sociology.
Joe received the Swim Canada Speedo Domestic Excellence award in 2016 for coaching a swimmer to a National Championship at the Swim Canada Age Group Championships. He has coached swimmers to multiple Swim Ontario provincial records and ranked many swimmers to #1 ranking in Top Age Group rankings. He is also a NCCP, CSCTA and Swimming Canada Certified Level I Fundamentals Coach, working on obtaining his level II, as well as certified in Standard First-Aid and NLS with the Lifesaving Society.
